The Labour MP for Peterborough Fiona Onasanya has become the first female Member of Parliament to be jailed. (Naija nor dey carry last).
This is because she tried to avoid a speeding ticket (doing 41mph in a 30mph zone), by colluding with her brother Festus.
She had named one Aleks Antipow a friend of her brother Festus as the person driving the at the time the offence was committed
She was rumbled when it was realised that her brother was in Russia at the time visiting their parents. The Judge in the case found her guiltey and sentenced her to three months in jail, while her brother who pleaded guilty to three counts of perverting the course of justice over speeding, has been given a 10 month sentence.
Mr Justice Stuart Smith said when handing out the ruling: ‘It’s a tragedy that you have found yourselves here and in this predicament but it’s a tragedy that you have brought on yourselves.
Since being found guilty the Labour party expelled her and launched their own internal investigation
